Subject: Problems of Insulin Dependant Diabeticsmailed

Respected Sir,

As a child specialist, I happen to treat many children with Insulin Dependant Diabetes. Those children with long period of Diabetes need newer, costlier insulins for tight control of blood sugar. They need blood glucose strips for Self monitoring of blood glucose. On an average a child of age 15 years need the following for a month. Injection Glargine ( Lantus ) manufactured by Aventis - 1 Vial - Rs 2500 / PMInjection Aspart ( Novorapid ) manufactured by Nova Nordisk - 3 Vials - Rs 1500 / PMBlood glucose strips 25 pack -1 - Rs 800 / PM. Apart from this they need frequent consultations and admission for complications. For Regular Insurance and Mediclaim, they have to pay extra amount, as premium.Eventhough, it is a lifelong disability, their medical expenses are not given exemption in IT-U/S 80 U.
I kindly request you to consider my points in an effort to reduce the price of newer insulins and blood glucose strips, by making them as essential drugs, consider these families for IT exemption and also give considerations in premiums for Insurance and Mediclaim.
